A suspect has been apprehended following a massive manhunt after a fatal overnight shooting in Northern Westchester County that has led to school closures in neighboring Putnam County.

The shooting happened in the town of Somers at approximately 11:35 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, according to New York State Police.

One person was killed. Two other victims are receiving care at hospitals in the area.

The suspect, Fernando Jimenez, 40, had last been seen in the Peekskill Hollow Road area in Putnam Valley. Jimenez was familiar with the victims, said police, who have not yet released specific details or the names of the victims.

Late Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, police announced Jimenez has been apprehended and is in custody, saying addition info, including where he was captured, will be released later.

All schools in the Putnam Valley Central School District are closed on Tuesday. There is a large police presence on Peekskill Hollow Road, and residents are asked to avoid the area.

"We are in contact with the New York State Police who continue significant police activity throughout Putnam Valley," the PVCSD said in a statement Tuesday morning. "Some residents remain under shelter-in-place orders. After speaking with law enforcement the decision has been made to close all Putnam Valley Schools today."

Jimenez is about 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, and was wearing black sweatpants and a gray sweatshirt at the time of the incident.
